GOVERNOR Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has spotlighted his administration’s strides in 2024 noting feats in grassroots empowerment and humanitarian interventions.
Speaking in Damaturu at his end-of-year press briefing, Governor Buni described the outgoing year as ‘eventful,’ with targeted programs which he said directly impacted the state’s most vulnerable populations.
According to him, a landmark humanitarian initiative, the Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) program saw 52,997 households and 201,300 individuals receiving the sum of N3.9 billion in cash assistance.
He added that food and non-food items were also distributed to over 456,205 households, and 974,220 individuals.
“We have stepped up efforts to reach people at the grassroots with direct support, ensuring no one is left behind,” Governor Buni noted, adding that his administration’s focus on wealth creation also yielded results, with over 3,560 micro and small entrepreneurs receiving cash grants of N50,000 each, while 4,800 unemployed youths were supported with N20,000 each.
Other empowerment measures, the governor said, included the provision of modern sewing machines, disability tricycles, livestock, and agricultural tools.
“These initiatives aim to foster economic independence and improve livelihoods across our state,” Buni said as he also stressed that infrastructure development at the grassroots level was also a priority, with investments in solar-powered boreholes, rural electrification, and improved healthcare facilities.

The governor highlighted the installation of 426 solar streetlights in Potiskum and Gujba, as well as the drilling of boreholes in under-served communities.
“These efforts are aimed at addressing basic needs and enhancing the quality of life for our people,” he said.
Governor Buni also expressed gratitude to security agencies in the state for maintaining peace and enabling development.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots development in 2025 as he vowed: “We will do whatever it takes to ensure life becomes more meaningful for the people of Yobe State.”
