THE MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will inaugurate the resurfacing and rehabilitation of 135 roads on Monday, September 11, 2023 as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure in the FCT.
While roads within Abuja metropolis are in perfect shape, the opposite is the case in virtually all satellite towns and suburbs of Abuja where majority of the working class reside.
The Director of Press, Office of the Minister, Mr Anthony Ogunleye, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Saturday.
Ogunleye explained that the projects, which would be implemented within Garki, Wuse, Gwarimpa and Maitama Districts, would also include remedial work of major bridges.
“The inauguration ceremony, which will take place along the Ladoke Akintola Boulevard, Garki II, Abuja, will be the first major infrastructural development project of the minister.
“The minister has expressed his determination to ensure a rapid infrastructural development of the nation’s capital,” he said.
Unlike Abuja metropolis, many satellite towns of the FCT have never had paved roads and where they had, such roads which were constructed in the ’80s and ’90s have been washed away and never rehabilitated.
Suburbs like Nyanya, Karu, Gwagwalada, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Kubwa, Gwagwa and Idu, amongst many others are huge slums with incredibly poor roads and other essential infrastructure for a nation’s capital. (NAN)
