THE WORLD Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) has condemned U.S. military invasion of Venezuela, which resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

In a statement released from its Athens headquarters, the WFTU asserted that U.S. forces, initially deployed to the Caribbean under the pretext of counter-narcotics operations, executed a “large scale strike” against the capital, Caracas.

The statement said the action culminated in the “illegal kidnap” of the Venezuelan head of state, an act WFTU termed “unprecedented” and a violation of fundamental principles of international law.

“The USA uncontrollably escalates its aggression,” the WFTU declared, describing the events as a dangerous new front in an increasingly unstable global landscape.

WFTU also framed the intervention as confirming a “chaotic phase” of imperialist aggression with potentially “unforeseen consequences.”

The organisation said the action is a direct attempt to seize control of Venezuela’s substantial mineral and energy resources, stressing that the operation was part of the broader framework of “inter-imperialistic antagonism for domination.”

The Federation urged its affiliates; “class-oriented and militant unions all over the globe”, to demonstrate unwavering support for the Venezuelan people and called on unions worldwide to “strongly condemn the imperialist intervention” and “tangibly extend their internationalist solidarity in multiple ways.”

The statement emphasises the “non-negotiable right of the people [of Venezuela] to determine freely and democratically their own present and future.”
