THE VENEZUELA Solidarity Campaign in Nigeria has strongly condemned the United States’ decision to place a $50 million bounty on Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, and other leaders of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), describing the move as a violation of international law and an act of imperialist aggression.
In a press statement, the group denounced the Trump administration’s escalation of pressure on Venezuela, calling it an unjustified attempt to destabilise the South American nation. The campaign emphasised that President Maduro and the PSUV leadership were democratically elected in internationally-monitored elections and that the U.S. bounty constitutes political aggression and an incitement to violence.
“This outrageous action is a blatant violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and the principles of non-interference enshrined in the United Nations Charter,” the statement read. “It represents yet another imperialist attempt to undermine a sovereign nation that has chosen an independent and anti-imperialist path.”
The group accused the U.S. of pursuing a failed regime-change agenda through economic sanctions, sabotage, and disinformation, which they argue have inflicted severe hardship on ordinary Venezuelans. They also referenced Nigeria’s previous resistance to U.S. attempts to deport Venezuelan nationals in July 2025, urging the Nigerian government and the international community to reject Washington’s latest actions.
The group while calling for international solidarity, issued several demands, including the immediate withdrawal of U.S. bounties and threats against Venezuelan officials, asks for condemnation of the U.S. action by the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), calls on the Nigerian government to strengthen diplomatic relations with Venezuela based on mutual respect, and the lifting of all sanctions imposed on Venezuela, which the group says have worsened the country’s humanitarian crisis.
“We stand in unwavering solidarity with the people of Venezuela, the Bolivarian Revolution, and their right to determine their own future without foreign interference,” the statement declared.
The campaign’s signatories include Gerald O. Katchy of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Dimeji Macaulay of the Anti-Fascist Movement, and Blessing Yusuf of the Federation of Informal Workers of Nigeria (FIWON).
