THE Vice-Chancellor of the Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, Professor Joseph Iorapuu, has called on the ASUU chapter of the institution to call off its strike action and resume academic activities.
The appeal was contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the university, Mr Tser Vanger last Saturday in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The PRO said the Vice-Chancellor made the call following an appeal by Parents/Stakeholders’ Forum (PSF) of the university that lecturers in the institution should pull out of the national body to enable them catch up with accumulated academic calendar.
Prof. Iorapuu explained that most of the grievances of the lecturers bordered on funding.
PSF Chairperson, Mrs Keziah Agundo, in the statement expressed hope that the suspending the strike will enable lecturers to reduce the accumulated workload of the unutilised academic calendar.
She disclosed that the 2020 and 2021 undergraduate programmes were yet to be matriculated while the 2022 Unified Matriculation Tertiary Examination admission was ongoing.
National Record was not able to reach the branch Chairman of BSU’s ASUU, Dr Victor Tarnongo, to find out if the union is prepared to accede to the VC’s plea, but the statement noted that Dr Tarnongo had promised to present the demands of the PSF to the appropriate organs of the union for deliberation.
