THE Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed readiness to join the nationwide strike planned by its national body against the Federal Government (FG) to protest the prolonged naira scarcity as a result of the naira redesign policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
State NLC Secretary, Comrade Joshua Haruna, who disclosed this to National Record in a phone interview on Thursday said the council was yet to receive directives from the national secretariat to that effect. He said Benue workers will not hesitate to join the industrial action if the decision is not reversed after the Governorship and State Assembly elections holding March 18, 2023 across the country.
“We are still expecting directives from the national [secretariat]. Once we get that, we will know. But definitely, if they give the directive, we will abide by it. But for now, there’s no directive yet, whether they are going on any industrial action or not”, Haruna said.
National Record had reported on Tuesday March 14, 2023 that the president of NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, had announced on Monday that the NLC would order workers to sit at home if the federal government failed to make cash available for Nigerians within 7 days.
The seven-day ultimatum will lapse on March 20, 2023.
