TWO BENUE indigenes whose sudden disappearance caused controversy on social media have both regained freedom in the early hours of Friday.

They are Asom D. Jerry, a social media critic of the Benue State Government, and Terver Atu, popularly known as Krayzeetee, who serves as Principal Special Assistant to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Youth and Media Mobilization.

Reports had initially linked Jerry to police detention following posts by fellow activists, while Atu’s wife raised alarm over his alleged abduction in Abuja, sharing a distress call from him before his phone line went off.

However, confusion persisted after the Benue State Police Command denied detaining Jerry, with the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, stating on Thursday that he had no knowledge of the alleged arrest. He also clarified that Atu’s case occurred outside the jurisdiction of the command.

By Friday morning, both men had resurfaced. Jerry, shortly after regaining freedom, posted on Facebook a cryptic message: “Life is all about two things: success or failure. And, life or death.”

In Atu’s case, his wife, Ri-Ta Chivir Ter, shared a picture of her husband lying on the ground in what appeared to be a gutter. She gave no details of where exactly he was discovered, but confirmed he had returned alive. After the short post, Atu wife’s number became unavailable!

Asom, known for his sharp criticism of Governor Alia’s administration, has previously identified himself with the camp of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume. In a past Facebook post, he boasted: “People are calling and threatening me, they no know say I be SGF last son.”

The twin incidents have raised eyebrows in political circles, particularly as Jerry is associated with the Akume divide, while Atu is within Governor Alia’s camp.

Their simultaneous disappearance, and now reappearance, depicts the tense atmosphere surrounding political rivalry, raising questions.
