THE MANAGEMENT of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has cautioned the erstwhile president of the institution’s alumni association, Dr Wale Fasakin, to desist from parading himself as the association’s national president.

The university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on Wednesday, said the institution, instead, recognised the association’s new executives, led by Prof. Abdulrazaq Kilani.

According to him, Fasakin’s tenure ended in 2021 through a resolution of the association’s congress.

He said a caretaker committee was, thereafter, put in place to run the association’s affairs till Aug. 2024 when the Kilani-led executives were elected.

“Dr Fasakin was reported to have led some people on an assumed courtesy visit of alumni of the university to the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mrs Kemi Nandap.

“They claimed that the visit was from the National Executive Committee of the Unilorin Alumni Association,” he said.

He, therefore, urged corporate organisations, government officials, well-meaning individuals and stakeholders of the university to stop giving audience to Fasakin or transacting any business with him.

“He has ceased to be an official of the association, so, he is no longer in any position to represent it,” Akogun said.

The director says while the university management may not want to interfere with the association’s affairs, it noted the unity hitherto enjoyed must not be watched destroyed.

According to Akogun, the management appreciates the association’s relevance and potential to make positive contributions to the overall development of the university.

He, therefore, said the university would continue to find a way to keep promoting internal peace and harmony within the association. (NAN)
