THE COALITION for Protection of Journalist Rights and Justice (CPJRJ) has accused activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, of neglecting the welfare of his employees while posturing as an advocate for staff of the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a statement, the group’s Convener, Abdul Diof, said Sowore had been “loudly parading himself as a champion of DSS staff welfare” despite what it described as his “woeful failure” in addressing the welfare of those who worked under him in his media outfit.
“Reports abound of how employees under his media platform were subjected to poor conditions, irregular or non-existent salaries, and outright neglect. Many who worked tirelessly to keep his organization afloat were abandoned without regard for their welfare or livelihood,” the CPJRJ alleged.
The coalition maintained that it was “hypocritical” for Sowore to project himself as an advocate for DSS operatives when he had not been able to provide the same for his staff.
“True leadership and advocacy begin at home, and Sowore has demonstrated neither,” the group said, urging Nigerians to see through what it called a “ploy for cheap popularity.”
The coalition concluded that Sowore must “first answer for his failures toward his staff before seeking relevance through performative activism.”
