THE SENATE Committee on Police Affairs is set to step into the controversy between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Chairman of the committee, Senator Abdulamid Ahmed Mallamadori, has said the committee is inviting the two sides to a meeting as soon as practicable.
The Senate, he said in a statement, cannot allow a controversy which can affect the reputation of the NPF to run its course.

The Senator Mallamadori is calling on all sides to halt claims and counter-claims in the media because, according to him, there is no misunderstanding that cannot be clarified and resolved by the parties in the interest of the nation.
Mallamadori pointed out how the current security situation in the country does not allow for any controversy that could impair any stakeholders in guaranteeing the safety of all Nigerians.
The NPF and the PSC have publicly traded claims and counter-claims over the recent recruitment of 10,000 constables into the NPF.
Annual recruitment of that number has been on since 2019 as a federal government policy response to policing Nigeria
