THE RIVERS State government on Tuesday denied reports that the Governor Siminalayi Fubara sacked some of his aides and all local government chairmpersons that were allegedly nominated for appointment by Nyesom Wike, his immediate predecessor.
In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Warisenibo Johnson, the government said Governor Fubara never took such action.
The state has been engulfed in a volatile political development in which the leadership of the House of Assembly was changed and a faction of the House also served notice of impeachment on the governor. It was also reported that Governor Fubara sacked some aides in order to consolidate his hold on the political structure in the state.

But the Information commissioner denied any such developments stressing that the governor is a pure democrat who does things according to the rule of law and the fear of God. He added that the public would be updated at the right time on who may have been removed by the governor.
The statement reads in part: “There had been unfounded reports making the rounds on various media platforms about His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, sacking certain categories of his aides and local council chairmen.
“This is to clarify that His Excellency has not given me such directive as the official spokesman of the state government as at today Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
“Our dear governor is a technocrat, with robust civil service background, kind-hearted and a very humane person who does things according to laid down rules and with the fear of God.

“We therefore ask Rivers people and the general public to jettison such unconfirmed reports as the public will be properly informed of who may have been removed by His Excellency at the appropriate time.
“It is pertinent to note that as the Commissioner for Information and Communication, I shall keep the public updated of events in due course”.
