WORKERS of the Michael lmoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MlNlLS), Ilorin, Kwara for the second consecutive day locked down activities in protest over the reappointment of Comrade Issa Aremu as the Director General and Chief Executive Officer (DG/CEO) of MINILS.
National Record had reported Tuesday how the protest, organized under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the three in-house unions in MINILS disrupted activities by shutting the gate of the institute.
The unions – Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI), Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes, and Associated Institutions (SSAUTHRAI); and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), had raised several allegations bothering on financial misconduct, staff victimization, neglect of staff welfare, infrastructure decay as well as failure to keep to the mandate of MINILS.
On Wednesday, MINILS’ staff, led by the leaders of the three unions, mounted a barricade at the main gate of MINILS chanting songs and carrying placards with various tags disparaging Aremu’s reappointment.
One of the union leaders, who pleaded anonymity, told National Record that Comrade Aremu will not dare step on the campus, noting that the workers were ready to chase him away even if he comes along with security men and thugs which he said he usually come along with to the institute.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted two staff of the institute, Mrs Maryam Abdulrasaq and Malam Ahmadu Yahaya to have called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately withdraw Aremu’s reappointment to restore peace and harmony to the institute.
