IN ORDER to enhance the wellbeing of staff and students in Colleges of Education across Nigeria, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Professor Paulinus Chijioke Okwelle, has advocated for a strategic humanitarian intervention for colleges of education in Nigeria.

Prof Okwelle expressed NCCE’s strategy when he paid a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Delu Bulus Yakubu, in her office in Abuja.

Okwelle said the visit was driven by a desire to express appreciation to the SSA for her commitment and willingness to partner with NCCE on poverty alleviation initiatives targeting the staff and students of Colleges of Education.

“We are delighted that you identify with our mandate and found it worthy to engage us in partnership for the greater good of teacher education and institutional development,” Professor Okwelle stated.

He expressed the Commission’s eagerness to translate the proposed partnership into practical interventions that would benefit Colleges of Education nationwide.

Commending the SSA’s efforts, he added: “The life-changing humanitarian initiatives you are championing are visible and highly commendable. We appreciate the impactful work you are doing.”

In her response, Hon. Delu Yakubu expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed her readiness to work with the NCCE to improve the lives of staff and students in College communities.

She emphasized that the Commission must be prepared to work at the fast pace set by her office, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on poverty alleviation.

She also requested that the NCCE constitute a dedicated team to liaise with her office on the implementation of intervention programmes, following the formalization of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
