Police Rescue Kidnapped JOSTUM Students In Benue

THE BENUE State Police Command has secured the release of three female students of J.S. Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) who were abducted by unknown gunmen from the institution’s campus.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sewuese Anene, the students were abducted on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at approximately 9:34pm when the police received a distress report about the abduction.

She said a crack team was deployed to investigate the matter and following intensive tracking efforts, the victims were freed on March 3, 2025, at about 9:34pm and are currently receiving medical attention at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, Mr Steve H. Yabanet, commended the officers involved in the rescue operation, particularly the IGP Intelligence Response Team from Abuja and other security agencies in Benue State, for their dedication to the investigation.

He reassured the public of the command’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators of this crime to justice while reaffirming the police’s resolve to combat insecurity in the state.

The investigation into the kidnapping remains ongoing according to the statement.

National Record had on February 27, 2025 reported the abduction of the students and the shutdown of the university.
