THE Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has enlisted Benue State Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Vincent Nyinongu, as a foundation member of the committee.
National Provost and PCRC Acting Chairman zone 4, Pst. Makanjuola Bode Peters, performed the function Monday at the NUJ State secretariat, Makurdi.
Pastor Makanjuola said the registration of Comrade Vincent Nyinongu followed a directive from the National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Magaji Ibrahim, to enlist the NUJ Chairman as foundation member of the zone 4 PCRC.
Makanjuola noted that the police cannot operate in isolation and therefore sought the support of the media for enhanced security in Benue State.
He expressed appreciation to the Comrade Nyinongu-led Benue NUJ for a cordial relation with the police, saying “if you paint the police red, the public will paint them red. If you paint the police black, the public will paint them black”.
Makanjuola announced that the approval of an exclusive PCRC unit for journalists in Benue state that will comprise basically, media practitioners to be handling their matters.
He added that other units will be created in the state to be holding monthly meetings with the Inspector General of Police on security matters.
Responding, Comrade Nyinongu assured the PCRC of a robust partnership and to project the police in a manner that the society will look at the officers in good image.
Comrade Nyinongu noted that the police doesn’t operate in isolation and in a vacuum just like the media hence the need for collaboration.
The PCRC National Provost, Pst. Peters Makanjuola, was accompanied on the important assignment by the PCRC zone 4 Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP David Aõndona Kaavanger who doubles as the Public Complaints Bureau Officer and as the representative of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Adesina Soyemi. Also on the entourage was the PCRC Chairman zone 4, Comrade Francis Ihyongu.
