BENUE State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has allegedly ordered the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to withdraw employment letters said to have been issued to applicants whose names were shortlisted for employment as Basic Education teachers.
An unimpeachable, highly placed official at SUBEB, who pleaded anonymity, confided in National Record on Thursday that Governor Ortom ordered the withdrawal of the employment letters after the names of successful applicants were forwarded to local governments councils in the state.
The source said the governor however did not give any reason for his directive for the withdrawal of the letters.
National Record further gathered from the source that SUBEB had not officially announced the release of the names although letters have been issued to the applicants.
However, the list of the successful applicants from Ukum, numbering 105, and pasted in Ukum local government secretariat, Sankera had already gone viral on social media on Thursday.
There is however no report of a similar posting of the list of successful applicants in any other local government council.
According to the source, the list was not officially sent to local governments even as he confirmed that the names posted on social media were authentic.
National Record recalls that over a month ago, Governor Ortom had instructed the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Comrade Joseph Utse, to within one week, conclude the recruitment process which commenced since September 2023.
However, there had been no further information on the outcome of the directive.
The governor has less than three months to the end of his tenure.
