THE death has been announced of a veteran of the trade union movement, Comrade Isiaka Ibrahim. Comrade Ibrahim died on Thursday, September 15 at the age of 83.
The veteran comrade has been laid to rest at the Panseke Cemetery, Tipper Garage, along New Garage, Ibadan, after Janazah prayers at the UCH Central Mosque, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Prof Omotoye Olorode announced the passing in a statement sent to National Record Friday morning.
The terse statement reads: “We received the very sad news that Our Senior Comrade Isiaka Ibrahim transited into eternity earlier today!
“Comrade Isiaka Ibrahim was the Secretary of Oyo State Council of the Civil Service Technical Workers Union – easily one of the most advanced industrial unions at that time and that became part of today’s AUPCTRE [Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees].
“Comrade Isiaka Ibrahim was the Chair of Oyo State Council of NLC while Comrade Ibikunle of NUT was the Secretary under the brutish military dictatorship of the early and middle 1980s. They were both exemplary and dedicated Senior Comrades; they were especially central to, and supportive of, the students’ movement and the very first Local Government Chapters of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Nigeria.
“Comrade Isiaka Ibrahim was generous, patient, informed, and patriotic.
“He lived in the tradition of dedication to working class unity, Solidarity among all trade unions and the entire labour movement; he was dedicated to working class emancipation in the tradition of Gogo Chu Nzeribe, Michael Imuodu and Wahab Goodluck.
“We commiserate with our Comrade Muhammed Ibrahim and the entire family.
“Rest in Power, Comrade ISIAKA IBRAHIM!
