THE NIGERIA Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has cautioned the public against a trending recruitment scam circulating on social media, clarifying that no recruitment exercise is currently ongoing.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ogun State Command of the NSCDC in Abeokuta by its spokesperson, Mr. Dyke Ogbonnaya.
Ogbonnaya stated that fraudsters are exploiting the photograph and reputation of a senior NSCDC officer to deceive and defraud unsuspecting individuals.
He emphasized that any legitimate recruitment would be announced through official channels and recognized media outlets.
The spokesperson urged the public to remain vigilant and disregard such fraudulent schemes.
“The Command has become aware of a social media scam orchestrated by a syndicate using the image and goodwill of a senior officer to fraudulently obtain money from individuals.
The NSCDC categorically disassociates itself from such activities and warns the public to disregard any unauthorized recruitment notices,” he said.
Ogbonnaya added that the Corps’ intelligence and surveillance teams are working to apprehend the perpetrators. He reassured the public that the command is committed to ensuring justice is served.
“Until an official announcement is made through proper channels, the public is advised to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to these scams,” he stated.
He further encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. (NAN)
