        • Agency Praises Oloyede’s Accountability, Urges Compensation for Affected Candidates

THE NATIONAL Orientation Agency (NOA) has applauded the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its transparency and accountability in addressing challenges that arose during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Mr. Paul Odenyi, NOA’s Deputy Director of Media and Communication, quoted the agency’s Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, as commending JAMB Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede for demonstrating the integrity and courage expected of public leaders.

        NOA Highlights Need for Restitution

Issa-Onilu noted that Oloyede’s forthrightness aligns with the principles of the National Values Charter (NVC), which advocates for transparency and accountability in public institutions.

He, however, urged JAMB to go beyond acknowledging errors by implementing remedial measures to address the concerns of affected candidates and stakeholders.

“While recognition of mistakes is the first step, redemption and restitution are other necessary steps,” Issa-Onilu stated. “Having decided to provide another opportunity to the candidates, JAMB should consider appropriate compensation to mitigate the stress and anxiety suffered.”

He reaffirmed NOA’s commitment to promoting good governance, trust, and mutual respect between citizens and institutions, adding that JAMB’s actions should serve as a model for other public bodies.

LASU Backs Oloyede, Calls for Public Support

In a related development, the Lagos State University (LASU) also commended Oloyede for his accountability, urging Nigerians to support him.

In a statement by Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, LASU’s Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, the university described Oloyede’s admission of errors as a rare display of courage and humility.

“Prof. Oloyede took full responsibility and ordered a retake for affected candidates — a decision that reflects exceptional leadership,” she said.

Thomas-Onashile highlighted Oloyede’s transformative reforms in JAMB since 2016, which have boosted examination credibility and transparency.

She urged Nigerians to view the incident as an opportunity to strengthen the system rather than a failure.

“Supporting leaders who demonstrate accountability, rather than condemning them for isolated shortcomings, is essential for Nigeria’s progress,” she added.

Both NOA and LASU emphasized the need for ethical leadership and urged other institutions to emulate JAMB’s accountability in governance.
