THE Federal Council of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) on Wednesday congratulated Comrade Lawrence Amaechi following his retirement from federal civil service after 35 years in service.

        Comrade Amaechi, NCSU President.

The congratulatory message, which was posted on the Whatsapp platform of the Federal Council of the NCSU by a male comrade, and which was forwarded to National Record by a member of the platform, who pleaded anonymity, reads:

“Let us join the rest of the NCSU family nationwide to congratulate the National President of our great Union, Comrade High Chief Lawrence Amaechi JP as he retires from Civil Service today 8th September, 2021.

“Sir, we are very proud of your achievements in the NCSU and thankful to God Almighty for granting you Grace and sound health throughout your 35 years in active service of your fatherland.

Screenshot of the WhatsApp post forwared to National Record.

“As you graduate today into the league of senior citizens in Nigeria, we pray for God’s continued protection over you and your beloved family, and we also pray that you shall continue to uphold ideals that shall strengthen the progress and growth of the NCSU.

        “Congratulations Comrade President Sir

        “Solidarity Forever!!”

Retiring President offended by the post
National Record gathered that Comrade Amaechi took umbrage at the post and had reportedly called several ranking members of the NCSU believed to be close to the comrade who made the post to call him to order and caution him to stop the mischief.

Comrade Amaechi also reportedly vowed that thousands of the comrade’s type will not be able to remove him from office.

A former National Trustee of NCSU who served between 2013 and 2018, Comrade (Alhaji) Ade Adebakin, told National Record Wednesday evening that though he may not know the current officers of the Federal Council of NCSU, he is however “fully aware of all that is transpiring in the council as well as the entire union.”

He said: “Today is the last day of Amaechi in the office, according to the gazette and other documents at the disposal of former national officers of the union. So, if Amaechi has anything otherwise, he should come out and prove himself.”

        Comrade Adebakin

When contacted, Comrade Amaechi told this reporter that he had told him not to call him [Amaechi) again, stressing that he will neither give him any information nor respond to his inquiries. “Leave me alone, don’t phone me; go ahead with your people and do anything you people like. Do you understand what I’m saying? Don’t phone me, I will not talk to anybody. Am not afraid of anybody; tell those who are fighting me to continue to fight; thank you sir,” Comrade Amaechi said.

When this reporter told him that he is not fighting him but only seeking for his response, Comrade Amaechi further stated: “I said Lawrence Onah, I know your antecedents; please leave me alone; I thank you so much; God bless you, you hear?”

        President entered civil service 1986
National Record had reported that Comrade Amaechi entered federal public service through the then Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Rural Development on 8th September, 1986 as a Clerical Assistant on Grade Level 03.

His appointment, in line with civil service rules, was confirmed two years later on 8th September, 1988, as contained in Federal Republic of Nigeria Official Gazette No 71, Vol 85, dated 17th December 1998, obtained from the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, Federal Secretariat, Abuja.

This means that Comrade Amaechi clocked 35 years in the federal civil service on September 8, 2021. A 2007 graduate of Public Administration from the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Comrade Amaechi retired on grade level 09 as Administrative Officer II.
