THE Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, Makurdi, has graduated forty-four students in four courses.

Speaking Wednesday during the combined graduation ceremony held at the institution’s premises, Commandant of the school, Commodore M. B. Salisu, gave the breakdown of the courses to include Master at Arms Refresher (MAA ‘R’) Course 09 of 23, Master at Arms Qualifying (MAA ‘Q’) Course 12 of 23, Pretty Officer Regulators Qualifying (POREG ‘Q’) course 14 of 23, and Leading Regulators Qualifying (LREG ‘Q’) course 15 of 23.

Some of the subjects taught during the training that lasted for 18 months according to the Commandant included Naval Law, Criminology, Provost and Crime, Security and Intelligence, Case File Compilation and Contemporary Operations among others.

He appreciated the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral A. Z. Gambo, for including Forensic Investigation and Professional Security in the curriculum of the courses, saying it has better prepared the graduands to face contemporary and emerging security threats in the maritime environment.

The Commandant who expressed concern that the school has been operating on a temporary site with small space since its relocation from Lagos to Benue in 2010 however disclosed that, “concrete efforts are ongoing with the Benue State Government to resolve this issue by planned allocation of a land to the school in no distant future. The relocation to a permanent site will provide a better learning environment”.

Special Guest of Honour at the occasion, Rear Admiral Patrick Chibueze Nwatu, charged the graduands to strive personally to continually improve themselves in their various units in order to keep pace with the best practices in provost regulating duties. He noted that “a provost personnel is supposed to be an epitome of knowledge and discipline” as people who enforce the law.

Earlier presenting the students for graduation, the Chief Instructor of the School, Lieutenant Commander UAF Ephraim, who outlined the course profile remarked that the students had conducted themselves in accordance with the laid down service rules and regulations as there were no recorded cases of indiscipline, adding that the graduands exhibited capacity and will ensure efficiency when deployed.

“All the forty-four (44) students were found worthy both in character and learning”, the Deputy Commander said.

He stated that the Nigeria Provost & Regulating School, Makurdi has maintained its reputation as centre of discipline in the Nigerian Navy and cautioned against any act capable of bringing disrepute to the school as such will be properly sanctioned according to him.
