THE FEDERAL High Court in Abuja has fixed June 27, 2025 to deliver judgment in the contempt proceedings filed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in a suit brought by the lawmaker.
Justice Binta Nyako will also rule on a preliminary objection raised by the defendants, including Akpabio, challenging the court’s jurisdiction.
The judge announced the date after counsel for both parties, including Michael Numa, SAN (representing Akpoti-Uduaghan), adopted their legal processes.
“I will first address the contempt claims before considering the preliminary objections. If the objections succeed, the case ends; if not, I will proceed to the originating summons,” Justice Nyako stated.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was present in court to observe proceedings.
Earlier, Justice Nyako had scheduled Tuesday for the hearing of Akpabio’s contempt application against Akpoti-Uduaghan, as well as the senator’s earlier contempt charge against the Senate President and others for alleged disobedience of a court order.
The judge further directed that all pending applications, including the preliminary objection and originating summons, be consolidated for determination. (NAN)
