THE MOVEMENT for Socialist Transformation (MOST) has paid glowing tributes to Comrade Fidelista Abiodun Aremu, popularly known as Comrade Aremson, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most steadfast revolutionary figures.
In an emotional tribute released by its Secretariat Collective, and made available to National Record, MOST Lauded Aremson as a tireless advocate for workers’ rights and a visionary champion for a socialist Nigeria.
It also eulogized Aremson, who was killed on Sunday by a yet-to-be-identified hit-and-run vehicle in Lagos, as a dedicated unionist and an internationalist whose life’s work was defined by an uncompromising commitment to justice, equality, and the liberation of the working class.
“Comrade Abiodun Aremu’s uncompromising commitment to socialism and his courage ignited hope in the hearts of the downtrodden,” the statement read. “His principled ideals, both in theory and practice, became a rallying point for generations yearning for freedom.”
The tribute highlighted his lifelong battle against the oppression and casualization of workers, noting that he believed fervently in a world where the emancipation of working people would reign supreme. Colleagues and followers remembered him not merely as a critic of the existing system, but as a proactive force for an alternative.
“History will remember not just what he fought against, but also what he fought for – a system change towards a society grounded in equality, solidarity and dignity for all,” the movement stated.
Focusing firmly on Aremson’s enduring legacy, MOST emphasized that while he has departed, his ideals will continue to resonate powerfully within social movements.
“His ideals endure. They live in the struggles of workers, in the dreams of the poor, and in every voice that dares to challenge social injustice,” the tribute affirmed.
In a closing that captured the spirit of his life’s mission, MOST bid him farewell with the words: “Rest in Power, Comrade Abiodun Aremu!” and reaffirmed its commitment to the cause he held dear, declaring: “The struggle for Socialist Transformation continues!”
Comrade Aremu’s passing marks the loss of a significant figure in Nigeria’s leftist political landscape, whose influence is expected to continue inspiring activists and unionists for years to come.
