THE REV. FR. Moses Orshio Adasu University Alumni Association (MOAUAA) officially launched its first centralized membership database and unified social media platform on Friday, marking a significant step toward fostering cohesion and development among alumni.
The event, held at the ICT Unit of Moses Orshio Adasu University (formerly Benue State University) in Makurdi, introduced a harmonized online registration portal.
In her keynote address, MOAUAA National President, Comrade Comfort Ashilu Abaivo, described the initiative as a pivotal moment in the association’s history, signaling an end to past divisions.
She emphasized the importance of reconciliation and collective efforts in building a stronger alumni network for the benefit of their alma mater.
“Today, we are not dwelling on past challenges but embracing a solution that fosters reconnection and progress.
“This database and unified communication channels will enhance engagement, facilitate networking, and provide exclusive benefits for all members,” she stated.
Mrs. Abaivo acknowledged the contributions of her executive team, volunteers, and development partners in bringing the project to fruition.
She also issued a directive for all unauthorized MOAUAA social media platforms to be deactivated immediately, warning that legal action would be taken against individuals operating unofficial channels in the association’s name.
Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joe Tor Iorapuu, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Mike Odey praised the alumni leadership for the initiative and assured them of the university’s support.
He confirmed that the institution was reviewing the association’s request for office space on campus and urged alumni to shift focus from internal disputes to tangible development projects.
“With this platform now in place, it is time to take action,” Prof. Odey said. “We must prioritize initiatives like hostel construction and other critical needs to advance the university.”
Other speakers at the event, including Prof. Ben Due and former National President Lawrence Vihimga, commended the leadership for the milestone, describing it as a necessary evolution for the association.
They called on members to support the initiative and work collaboratively toward shared goals.
Dr. Stephen Gwar, the association’s Financial Secretary, concluded the event by urging alumni to renew their dedication to the university’s growth.
“This institution belongs to all of us, and we must unite to safeguard and elevate its legacy,” he said, advocating for stronger ties between alumni and the university administration.
The launch of the centralized database marks a new chapter for MOAUAA, reinforcing its commitment to unity, progress, and sustained engagement among its members.
