AN 8.1-MINUTE VIDEO clip of a sermon by Rev. Fr. George Omaku Ehusani reflecting on the ongoing tripartite negotiation of a new national minimum wage, with the fiery Catholic Priest expressing his frustration on the character of the leadership of Nigeria.
According to Fr. Ehusani in the undated sermon, but which may have been delivered either on Saturday, June 8 or Sunday, June 9, 2024, “something is seriously wrong with the heads of many of our leaders” who, while receiving hundreds of thousands or millions as salary “would sit in a boardroom to discuss the sustainability or otherwise of paying N60,000 to the poorest of workers.”

“How can anyone who earns N200,000, N300,000, N400,000, N500,000 – not to talk of people who earn N1 million N2 million – how can they go to sleep in good conscience every day? How can they go to sleep in good conscience and come out to sit down in a boardroom to discuss the sustainability or otherwise of paying N60,000 to the poorest of workers?
“How can we go to bed and sleep? All those who belong to the elite who earn 2, 3, 4, 5 hundred thousand, one million – how can you go to sleep in good conscience, I say, if you still have any conscience?
“How can you go to sleep in good conscience and come out to be debating?” Fr. Ehusani asks, noting that it is a crime against humanity, among other things.
