AN AREA Court in Jos on Tuesday, sentenced one Ishaya Maisaja, to 17 months imprisonment, for stealing a goat worth N120,000
The judge, Irene Pati, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence. The judge however gave the convict an option of fine of N50,000 and also ordered him to pay a compensation of N120,000 to the complainant or another five months imprisonment on default.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the Gada Biyu police station, on Oct. 18, by Mr one Victor Okeke, the complainant.
He said the complainant told the police that the now convict trespassed into his compound where he left his goat valued at N120,000 to graze and stole it.
The prosecutor also told the court that during police investigation, the convict confessed to have committed the offence, adding that the slaughtered goat was found in his possession.
He said the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria. (NAN)
