RESIDENTIAL houses in Makurdi, Benue State capital, have been flooded following a torrential rainfall last Thursday night, destroying numerous items including food supplies stored in homes.
National Record observed that although the entire state capital was affected by the heavy downpour, Kanshio, New Layout, Achusa and Logo1, were the most affected locations.
Information Officer, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Mr Tema Ager, in a statement on Friday said the agency conducted an assessment tour of the affected areas.
According to him, the Acting Executive Secretary of Benue SEMA, Sir James Aondoakaa Iorpuu, received a distress call at approximately 4am and promptly mobilised to evaluate the extent of the damage, saying “the authorities are expected to provide relief and support to those affected as they continue to assess the full scope of the damage caused by the flooding”.
The federal government of Nigeria had announced in April 2024 that Benue was among 31 states at the risk of severe flooding from April to November 2024.
