LOBI Stars Football Club, Makurdi, has appointed Mohammed Baba Ganaru as interim head coach until the end of the season, following the resignation of Daniel Amokachi last week due to personal reasons.
“No reason. He resigned and we got another person,” an official of the club told our correspondent in Whatsapp chat on Wednesday.
National Record has gathered that Mohammed Baba Ganaru is a seasoned coach, renowned for his tactical acumen and leadership.
He notably led Kano Pillars FC to consecutive Nigeria Premier League titles before departing the club in November 2013 to join Nasarawa United.
In July 2015, he returned to Kano Pillars as their technical adviser. Over the years, Ganaru has also managed football clubs such as Wikki Tourists, El-Kanemi Warriors, and Akwa United.
His tenure at Akwa United concluded in December 2024 following a 1-1 draw with Bendel Insurance.
Prior to his current appointment at Lobi Stars, Ganaru resigned from Gombe United in March 2024, citing financial challenges within the club.
Daniel Amokachi, ex-Nigerian international, assumed the role of head coach at Lobi Stars earlier this season.
During his tenure, the team faced a series of challenging matches, including a 4-2 defeat to Ikorodu City in October 2024 and a 1-0 home loss to Enyimba in February 2025.
Despite efforts to turn the tide, Lobi Stars remained at the bottom of the Nigeria Premier Football League standings, apparently leading to Amokachi’s resignation following a 1-1 home draw against Katsina United, National Record further gathered.
The club is hopeful that with Ganaru’s extensive experience and proven track record, he can steer Lobi Stars towards improved performances in the remaining fixtures of the season.
