SPEAKER of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba, has stated that leaders need prayers and moral support from the masses rather than destructive criticism to enable them to succeed and cater for the citizenry.
The Speaker stated this in an interview with newsmen last Sunday at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Akpehe, Makurdi shortly after he was decorated with an Award of Epitome of Humility, Peace and Justice by the Church.
He said politicians are very vulnerable as they are invited for many Church services every Sunday where they are expected to render support.
“We need prayers and moral support from them. They should stop calling us names that we are stealing money. We need money to support the church and the entire public.”
He said that St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Akpehe had deemed it fit to honour him and some other prominent sons and daughters with Award of Excellence which will spur them to do more. The Speaker assured that the message sent by the Church through him to the governor requesting for road construction will be conveyed.
“I have already whispered to my Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state who is a strong member of this church. I will convey the message about the road to the Governor.”
Earlier, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Adagba, who delivered the sermon at the mass, acknowledged that Governor Samuel Ortom has provided an Electricity Transformer and built a Chapel for St Joseph’s Akpehe.
Rev. Fr. Adagba however called on the governor to construct Akpehe road for people of the area which will be their dividend of Democracy.
Other Honourees include Andrew Ayabam, Alex Adum, Anthony Dyegeh, Ngunan Adingi, Emmanuel Shior and others.
