A LANDLORD, Abdul Ayuba, 56, on Tuesday, was dragged before a Wuse Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly removing his tenant’s doors and windows.
The defendant, who was charged with mischief and theft, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Chinenye Okafor, alleged that the defendant and landlord on Aug. 2, went to the apartment rented to the complainant, Godswill Uko, in Jabi, Abuja, and removed doors and windows.
Okafor said that when the complainant returned from work at 9:20p.m., he discovered that his apartment was open and his stabiliser valued N55,000, wristwatch of N45,000 and Iphone 12 promax of N305,000 had been stolen.
She said that the value of the alleged stolen items was estimated to be N405,000.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened provisions of Sections 327 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Habiba Bello granted the defendant one million naira bail and with one surety who must provide means of identification and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Bello also ordered that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means of livelihood and his address verified by the court’s registrar.
She thereafter adjourned the matter until Sept.16 for hearing. (NAN)
