THE CHAIRMAN, Eredo local council development area (LCDA) in Epe LGA of Lagos State, Mr Monsuru Akinloye, has urged protesters to be peaceful, while exercising their civic rights.
Akinloye made the appeal during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Eredo, Lagos on Thursday.
He urged the protesters to be patient with the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, adding that things were being put in place to ensure a better economy.
“This appeal is necessary to beg the protesters to sheathe their swords, embrace peace and be hopeful of a brighter and better Nigeria soonest.
“Citizens should demonstrate their civic responsibility peacefully, calmly and be patriotic about it.
“It is constitutional for citizens to hold a peaceful protest, but they must be patriotic about it, ” he said.
According to the LCDA boss, the economic reforms of Tinubu’s administration cannot manifest in one day, it will take a gradual process.
“Citizens should understand that no government will be happy seeing its citizens suffering.
“The President understands the pains and worries of Nigerians. I am sure that this government’s economic reform and restructuring will catapult Nigeria’s economy to a greater height,” the council boss said.
Akinloye lauded residents in his council area for not joining the protest.
He said that the council had sensitised and educated the people of the societal developments being worked on by the government.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel. A little patience will do it for us,” he added.
Akinloye lauded Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for ensuring that council chairmen across Lagos put smiles on residents’ faces through distribution of cash and food palliatives.
Akinloye said that the three tiers of government were doing their best, but there was always room to do more.
“I, therefore, urge Nigerians to shun the protest, embrace peace and unity, and be hopeful of a better Nigeria,” he said. (NAN)
