THE KEBBI State Police Command says it has arrested four suspects in connection with the recent farmers-herders clash in Gulma Town, Argungu Local Government Area, which claimed eight lives.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.

Usman said the suspects were arrested following ongoing investigations into the violent incident that resulted in the deaths of one farmer and seven herders.

According to him, the suspects are Adamu Madugu of Gulma, Musa Makera of Sauwa, Saidu Adamu of Sauwa, and Shafi’u Hamza of Gulma communities.

He said the suspects would soon be arraigned before a competent court on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and culpable homicide.

“The Command has intensified efforts to identify, arrest, and bring to justice all other persons linked to the incident who are currently at large,” he said.

The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Umar Hadejia, had assured families of the victims and members of the public that the command would pursue the case to its logical conclusion.

He quoted the commissioner as reiterating the command’s commitment to ensuring that all those found culpable face the full weight of the law.

“Hadejia also urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, assuring that justice would be served.

“The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the state, as well as protecting lives and property.

“He added that further updates would be provided as investigations progress,” the PPRO said. (NAN)
