THE ONLY female governorship candidate in Kano, Furera Ahmad, has vowed to tackle the menace of drug abuse and thuggery in the state head-on if she emerged victorious at the forthcoming general election.

Furera, who is contesting under the platform of Because Of Our Tomorrow (BOOT) party, stated this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kano.
Ahmad said as a mother, she knows where the shoe pinches and would proffer solution to the menace.
She detested the attitude of some politicians allegedly engaging some youths into thuggery under the influence of drug abuse during the electioneering period.
“I will place priority on the plight of women, children and youths especially on the issue of drug abuse and thuggery. We are mothers who are always close to the women and children. We give them proper upbringing. Most men don’t notice drug abuse or bad behaviour of their children early until it has gone too far.
“Based on this, we, the women, are encouraged to contest elections so that if we emerged victorious, we know how to tackle the menace head-on,” she said
According to her, drug abuse and bad behaviour is too much and has become a great challenge to leaders in our society.
She expressed optimism of emerging victorious during the polls, noting that she is gaining support of her female folks and others.
The candidate also urged Nigerians to shun vote buying which tends to deprive them of their rights to vote for candidates of their choice.
Ahmad further urged the electorate to vote for competent candidates and not on the basis of political parties.
“We should shun vote buying, selling our votes because of spaghetti, rice, and token. We should not sell our franchise,” she urged.
She also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct credible elections, and whoever wins, should be declared winner. (NAN)
