A JOS Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced a 22-year-old mechanic, Mustapha Saad, to 9 months in prison for diverting the money kept in his care to personal use.
The Magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the convict who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Bokkos in her judgment, however, gave the convict an option of fine of N20, 000 or to spend three months in prison.
She also ordered the convict to pay a compensation of N90,000 to the complainant or spend another six months in prison.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Thiawar, told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station on March 20, by one Auwal Jibrin, the complainant.
Thiawar said that the convict was given N80,000 to keep but he spent the money on his personal needs.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
