- Pre-convention Activities Commence with Symposium on May 18
THE Joint Action Front (JAF) on Thursday announced that it will hold its 4th Congress, scheduled to start Friday, June 4th to Ssaturday, 5th 2021 at the Textile Union House, 10 Acme Road, Off Agindigbi, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos.
A statement by Comrade Abiodun Aremu, JAF Secretary, said the Congress will hold under the theme: “The Necessity of an Alternative Political Agenda to Reconstruct Nigeria,” will attract delegates from JAF affiliates, observers and invited guests drawn from within the Nigerian working class, oppressed masses, allies and other collaborating groups who have been involved in popular struggles with JAF in the political and socio-economic transformation of Nigeria since 2003.
According to Comrade Aremu, the agenda of the Congress will include keynote speeches that will reflect on the sub-themes: “Defining the Ideological Context of the Labour and Civil Society Coalition: Wither LASCO – NLC, TUC & ASUU?” and “The Political Alternative Question: Defining JAF Position and its Program of Actions,” as well as elections into various positions of JAF.
He added that the leadership of the NLC, TUC & ASUU would be specifically invited to the Congress to state their positions
Prior to the 4th Congress, Aremu also announced that there will be pre-convention programme of activities to include a symposium scheduled to hold on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 on the theme: “Insecurity in Nigeria and the Deepening of Ethno-religious Conflicts: Finding Genuine Alternative to the Descent into Barbarism!” as well as a pre-Congress meeting of affiliates holding on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
Comrade Aremu further stated: “We wish to restate that JAF remains committed to the struggle and defence of the class interest of the working people, oppressed poor masses, women, academics and professionals, students and youth, artisans, the unemployed and people living with disabilities and other categories of deprived Nigerians.
“Therefore, we urge Nigerians to embrace the STRUGGLE FOR SYSTEM CHANGE (Socialist transformation of Nigeria), which we have consistently explained that: “the Change we want will UNITE the vast majority of our people under a government that will organise the working people and oppressed poor to boost our productive capacities and will use the resources for sustainable economic and social advancement; thereby reversing our economic dependency and restoring our dignity as an independent country. The Government of the working people will take care of all Nigerians no matter where they come from, irrespective of their religion, or wherever they live, and their sex. It will care for all Nigerians that are being dehumanised by the rule of the looters and oppressors”.”
