THE INTER-PARTY Advisory Council (IPAC) has commended police for arresting 46 suspects over an attack on the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi’s convoy.
IPAC also urged thorough investigation to establish the immediate and remote causes of the incident, identify perpetrators and sponsors, and ensure all faced justice.
The council made the call in a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Martins Egbeola, condemning the attack on Obi along the Makurdi-Gboko highway.
IPAC described the incident as political intolerance against Obi, who was travelling to Yelwata, Guma local government area, to sympathise with the families affected by the June 2025 killings.
“It is outrageous, despicable, and an invitation to anarchy in this electoral season, ” IPAC said.
The council maintained that restricting a citizen from entering any state violated the 1999 Constitution, which guaranteed freedom of movement, urging authorities to prevent further escalation.
According to IPAC, Benue is already facing persistent terrorist attacks, making the alleged mobilisation of youths against Obi’s convoy such misplaced aggression and unacceptable.
As umbrella body of registered political parties, IPAC said it remained committed to democratic participation and efforts toward building a strong, united, prosperous and inclusive society. (NAN)
