THE BENUE State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in parts of Konshisha and Gwer East LGAs following renewed communal clashes between the Mbaiase and Ugambe communities.
Chairman of Gwer East LGA, Mr. Timothy Adi, disclosed the development while interacting with journalists in Makurdi, stating that the curfew was the outcome of a joint security meeting held with his Konshisha counterpart, Hon. Moses Chikyaa, aimed at curbing the escalating violence.
Mr. Adi explained that the curfew was necessary to forestall further breakdown of law and order, adding that security operatives have been deployed to the affected areas to restore peace and protect lives and property.
He assured residents that normalcy is gradually returning, especially in Mbasombo, where security presence has been strengthened.
He urged citizens to go about their lawful activities and report any suspicious movements to relevant authorities.
The Gwer East chairman also appealed to residents to shun internal conflicts that could derail development efforts in the area, noting that sustained peace is vital for progress.
While commending Governor Hyacinth Alia for initiating the construction of the Awajir-Oju Road which he described as a significant transformation for the local government, Mr. Adi called on the people to support the governor’s administration to enable him to achieve more for the state.
