FORMER Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has described the late Ambassador Sir (Dr) Paddy Kemdi Njoku, KSJI, KSS, as “a man whose life exemplified service, wisdom, humility and devotion to humanity,” following the elder statesman’s death at the age of 75.
In a heartfelt tribute issued on behalf of the Ihedioha family, Ihedioha said Dr Njoku’s passing on May 26, 2026, had left “a profound void” in the family, describing him as not only an elder brother and first in-law but also “a reliable source of counsel, strength and encouragement.”
Born on August 28, 1950, Dr Njoku built a distinguished career in public administration, education, mediation, and public service. He served as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO), President of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), Commissioner in the Imo State Judicial Service Commission, and as a university administrator.
According to Ihedioha, Dr Njoku distinguished himself in every office he held through integrity, fairness, and unwavering dedication to duty. He also described the deceased as a Pan-Nigerian, a devout Catholic, a gifted multi-lingualist, and an accomplished wordsmith who remained actively involved in several socio-cultural organisations within and outside Nigeria.
The former governor further noted that beyond his professional achievements, Dr Njoku would be remembered for his compassion, generosity, and commitment to humanity.
“Uncle Paddy was not only our senior brother, but also a reliable source of counsel, strength and encouragement,” Ihedioha said, adding that his enduring legacy would continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
While acknowledging the pain of the loss, the Ihedioha family said it was comforted by the lasting legacy of service and excellence the late administrator left behind.
“Though this loss is painful, we are comforted by the lasting legacy he leaves behind, as we continue to pray for the eternal repose of his soul,” the statement concluded.
Njoku is survived by his family and is remembered as one of Nigeria’s respected administrators and mediators whose contributions to education, justice administration, conflict resolution, and national development earned him widespread admiration.
