A FORMER First Lady of Benue State and member representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mrs Regina Akume, has urged her husband, Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), to return to Christianity, saying his success is dependent on faith.

SGF Akume flanked by his first wife, Hon. Mrs Regina Akume, as he addressed people at City Bay, Makurdi, last year during his 71st birthday celebration.

Regina made the appeal in a controversial goodwill message during an interview with Together TV on Saturday to mark the SGF’s 72nd birthday anniversary. The message came amid reports of Akume’s recent marriage to Queen Zaynab Ngohemba-George Akume Dajoh.

Appearing emotional during the interview, Regina prayed for the SGF and advised him to retrace his steps spiritually.

She said, “I pray that the Lord will increase his years, good health, good health of mind and body. I mean, he will have clarity in thinking and doing things right. And he should remember that he is a Christian, and it is Christianity that has brought him this far. And so to drop Christianity now, to go for anything, he will not be successful.

“So, my advice to him is to come back to Christianity and follow the line of Christ. We came all the way to SGF not through any means but through Jesus Christ. And Jesus Christ is still alive and still working, doing things for us.

“So, I wish that he comes back to Christianity.”

The message came as the Dajoh family officially announced the marriage of Senator Akume to Queen Zaynab, formerly known as Zaynab Otiti Obanor. The announcement was made via a Facebook post by a family member, Abraham Double-d Dajoh, who described the union as a joyful addition to the family and welcomed Queen Zaynab as an “uncommon wife.”

The family also symbolically welcomed her into Benue State, popularly known as the “Food Basket of the Nation,” as well as Mbakor, regarded as the seat of Tiv leadership, and the Dajoh family home.

Queen Zaynab is known for her reported previous high-profile marriage to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi according to DailyPost report.

At the time, she publicly confirmed the separation, dismissing speculation surrounding the breakdown of the marriage and stating that she intended to focus on humanitarian activities.

She later relocated to Doha, Qatar, where reports in subsequent years linked her to a wealthy Arab prince, with whom she was said to have had a daughter in 2022.

Her marriage to Senator Akume has therefore drawn renewed attention to her marital history, as well as to the personal life of one of Nigeria’s top government officials.

Reports circulating alongside the announcement claim that Queen Zaynab had been married more than once before her union with the SGF, adding another part to the public discourse surrounding the development.

As congratulatory messages continue to pour in for Senator Akume on his 72nd birthday, Regina Akume’s heartfelt admonition has stood out, igniting debates on faith, family and power at the highest levels of public office.
