“The remarkable journey of a veteran journalist, accomplished advertising practitioner, institution builder, and lawmaker whose legacy extends beyond politics”.

HON. SALISU Ibrahim Mohammed is a distinguished journalist, advertising professional, entrepreneur, and politician whose life has been defined by service, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to the development of Kano State and Nigeria at large. His remarkable journey reflects a rare blend of professional excellence and public service, making him one of the most respected political figures to emerge from Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Born in Riruwai, Doguwa Local Government Area, Hon. Salisu commenced his educational journey at Riruwai Primary School before proceeding to Government Secondary School, Kazaure. His passion for learning and communication later earned him a degree in English with specialization in Linguistics from the University of Maiduguri, a foundation that shaped his successful career in journalism, advertising, and public service.

When he joined the Kano State House of Assembly as the member representing Doguwa Constituency, he brought with him not only political aspirations but also a wealth of professional experience and innovative ideas. As a legislator, he consistently championed policies and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of his constituents and strengthening the economic foundations of Kano State.

His professional career commenced in journalism, where he distinguished himself as a dedicated and accomplished media practitioner. At Triumph Publishing Company, he served as a Business Correspondent and subsequently rose through the ranks to become Business News Editor and a member of the Editorial Board, before later assuming the position of Commercial Services Controller.

His passion for communication, public engagement, and strategic marketing subsequently earned him a pioneering role as Group Advert Manager of the Daily Trust Media Group (now Media Trust). During his time at Media Trust, he further demonstrated his leadership within the advertising industry by becoming the Pioneer Coordinator of the Abuja Advert Practitioners Forum, now known as the Association of Advertising Agencies of Abuja (APAAC).

Drawing on years of professional experience and industry expertise, he established The Print Communication in 2006, an Abuja-based advertising consultancy firm that became a reference point within Nigeria’s advertising industry. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the profession, he attained the prestigious status of Fellow, the highest echelon of advertising practice in Nigeria thereby underscoring his standing as one of the country’s most accomplished advertising professionals.

Long before entering politics, Hon. Salisu had established himself as a respected advertising practitioner with a keen understanding of the enormous economic potential of the advertising industry. His professional footprints extended beyond Northern Nigeria. Nearly two decades ago, he contributed significantly to the establishment of a signage and outdoor advertising regulatory framework in one of Nigeria’s southeastern states, demonstrating his capacity to deploy professional knowledge in support of public institutions and economic development.

One of his notable legislative interventions was his proposal for the establishment of a higher institution to serve the educational needs of communities within the axis comprising Doguwa, Tudun Wada, Kiru, and Bebeji Local Government Areas. The proposal reflected his conviction that access to higher education remains a critical catalyst for social and economic transformation.

The initiative eventually received government attention, leading to the allocation of an extension campus of the School of Preliminary Studies (formerly CAS Kano) within the area (Tudun Wada LGA), thereby expanding educational opportunities for thousands of young people across the region.

Indeed, Hon. Salisu Ibrahim Mohammed’s legacy extends beyond politics. It is a legacy of service, vision, professionalism, innovation, and people-centred leadership. His story remains a compelling example of how professional excellence can be successfully translated into meaningful public service and lasting societal impact.

Equally noteworthy is his contribution to revenue generation and institutional development in Kano State. As an accomplished advertising practitioner, Hon. Salisu believed that he would have fallen short of his professional responsibility if he completed his tenure in the State Assembly without helping Kano State harness the enormous revenue potential embedded in the advertising industry. Motivated by this conviction, he became one of the strongest advocates for the establishment of the Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KASA).

Through sustained advocacy, technical guidance, and policy engagement, he worked tirelessly to convince policymakers of the need for a dedicated agency to regulate and manage outdoor advertising in the state. He often expresses satisfaction that the vision eventually received the support of His Excellency, Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, whose administration established the Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency.

Today, KASA stands as one of the state’s emerging revenue-generating institutions, having reportedly generated over five hundred million naira within a relatively short period of operation. The success of the agency serves as a testament to the foresight, professional expertise, and developmental vision that Hon. Salisu Ibrahim Mohammed brought into public service.

Beyond his legislative accomplishments, Hon. Salisu is admired for his humility, accessibility, and cordial relationship with people from all backgrounds. He remains a leader who listens attentively, values human relationships, and treats people with dignity regardless of their social or political status. His ability to maintain strong friendships and productive working relationships across political divides has earned him widespread respect among colleagues, constituents, and stakeholders.

Many beneficiaries of his mentorship and support attest to his commitment to human capital development. Through educational assistance, career guidance, empowerment initiatives, and opportunities for young people, he has positively impacted countless lives. His belief in self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and skills acquisition continues to inspire younger generations to pursue productive and meaningful careers.

As discussions about future political contests continue, it is evident that the relevance and influence of Hon. Salisu Ibrahim Mohammed transcend elective office. His experience in journalism, advertising, legislative governance, and public policy places him in a unique position to continue contributing to society in various capacities.

Whether as a mentor, public affairs consultant, policy advocate, institution builder, or elder statesman, his wealth of knowledge and experience remains a valuable asset to Kano State and the nation.

Those who have followed his journey remain optimistic that his post-legislative years will open new chapters of service and accomplishment. The loyalty, goodwill, and support he enjoys from friends, associates, professional colleagues, and constituents are products of decades of integrity, commitment, and genuine concern for the welfare of others.
