IN A RENEWED attack on Benue community, gunmen, suspected to be armed Fulani herdsmen, have killed two persons in Apa LGA of Benue State.
The gunmen launched the attack on Sunday 22, 2026 in Edikwu G’Icho, Ole-G’ijamu, and Ukpogo, killing a pastor and one other.
The Chairman of Apa LGA, Adams Ocheiga, who confirmed the incident, said the victims were ambushed and killed on Sunday at Edikwu Ward 11.
“Two people were ambushed and killed at Edikwu Ward 11 yesterday, while Oiji was attacked this morning but repelled immediately by vigilant youths.”
According to residents who spoke on condition of anonymity, a pastor returning from church was among those killed during the ambush.
The residents also stated that two women were allegedly raped during the violent attack and were rushed to a hospital for immediate treatment.
The escalating attack was reportedly repelled successfully by vigilant youths who swiftly switched into action to curb the situation and prevent further casualties.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, SP Udeme Edet, for comments were unfruitful as she neither picked her calls nor called back just as she failed to respond to sms messages sent to her.
