GOVERNOR Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has praised the state’s workers, members of the media and other stakeholders for their support and contributions to his administration’s efforts to develop the state.

The governor stated this at an elaborate end-of-year press briefing held in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, where he also outlined his administration’s transformative projects in various sectors of the state’s economy.

“Through robust and prudent management of scarce resources, we were able to turn around the fortunes of our people by making significant investments in healthcare, education, agriculture, and wealth creation,” Governor Buni stated.

He noted that over N15.3 billion was invested in agricultural empowerment, benefiting 5,340 farmers with implements and inputs, and securing the state’s food reserves with an additional N1.7 billion spent on grains procurement.

The administration’s healthcare achievements were particularly noteworthy, as Governor Buni said under his watch, Yobe State secured a $500,000 award (about N750 million) for primary healthcare excellence in the North-East sub-region.

He also revealed that the government recruited 311 healthcare workers while ensuring 100% payment of hazard allowances and the adjustment of CONMESS and CONHESS salary scales to healthcare workers.

“We have procured state-of-the-art medical equipment, provided free dialysis for kidney patients, and renovated key healthcare facilities, including the State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu,” Buni stated.

In education, Governor Buni detailed the administration’s focus on improving learning infrastructure and teacher capacity. “We procured 14,487 units of pupils’ furniture, trained 2,530 teachers, and established 90 new junior secondary schools. Over N2 billion was spent on student feeding and examination fees,” he revealed.

The governor also emphasized infrastructural strides, listing several road projects, market developments, and electrification initiatives.

Notable projects included the ongoing construction of the 76km Gujba-Ngalda road and the near-completion of the Potiskum Truck and Transit Park. “These developments are critical to fostering economic growth and connectivity in our state,” Buni stressed.

He expressed his administration’s commitment to, in 2025, intensify efforts to sustain the momentum in improving Yobe State’s development.

“We will not relent in our efforts to make life more meaningful for the people. Together, we will continue to move Yobe State forward,” he affirmed.
