Gov. Bago Allocates Billions For Flood Relief, Donates 50 Trucks Of Grains To Mokwa Victims

NIGER State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has donated one billion Naira (N1,000,000,000) to support victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa LGA.

The governor made the announcement during an on-the-spot assessment of properties destroyed by the flood, where he addressed affected residents.

The governor also has announced the award of a N7 billion contract for the construction of a 12-kilometer road linking Mokwa to Rabba, including four bridges.

As part of relief efforts, the state government will distribute ten trucks each of rice, beans, maize, millet, and sorghum to the victims.

Governor Bago assured that all donations would be equitably distributed through a committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Yakubu Garba.

In addition to immediate relief, the governor pledged to provide resettlement land and essential services to displaced persons. He directed the Ministry of Land and Survey to issue a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to the Federal Government to expedite the construction of permanent resettlement homes.

Pending the completion of these homes, the state government will make necessary arrangements to relocate affected individuals from temporary camps.

Governor Bago expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, donor agencies, humanitarian organizations, and private individuals for their support.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Daji, extended his condolences to the flood victims, urging them to remain resilient.

Similarly, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, alongside former Deputy Governor Alhaji Mohammed Ketso, commended the governor’s intervention and acknowledged the contributions of other donors.

N7 Billion Road Project Awarded

Meanwhile, the governor disclosed the award of a N7 billion contract for the construction of a 12-kilometer road linking Mokwa to Rabba, including four bridges.

Governor Bago disclosed this during his visit to assess flood damage in the area. he directed relevant ministries and agencies to conduct a comprehensive survey of waterways and state topography to facilitate the relocation of residents from flood-prone areas and prevent future disasters.

He reassured citizens of the government’s commitment to their welfare and urged unity during the recovery process.

A symbolic distribution of relief materials was conducted for selected households, after which Governor Bago proceeded to Rabba to inspect a bridge severed by the flood and commiserate with affected residents.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the floods resulted in multiple fatalities and extensive property damage. (NAN)
