THE BENUE State governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has terminated the appointment of the rectors of the state’s two polytechnics, and provost of a College of Education (CoE) along with some principal officers of the institutions.

The termination of the appointments is contained in a press release signed by the permanent secretary, Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management, Mr Agbo Ochekpe, on behalf of the commissioner in charge of the ministry, Dr Frederick Ikyaan, dated March 27, 2024.
The directive, which has been conveyed to the institutions, directed the principal officers to handover to those next to them or the most senior officers.
“Following the recommendation of visitation panel to Tertiary Institutions in the state, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the termination of appointment of some principal officers of institutions in the state with immediate effect,” the press release read.
A correspondence attached to the press release stated that the “directive is in line with the recommendation of the visitation panel sent to the institution[s] recently.”

The correspondence did not disclose further reasons for the termination of the appointments.

At the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, the rector is to hand over to the deputy rector (administration) while the provost, College of Education Katsina-Ala is to hand over to the deputy provost (administration).
At the Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, Makurdi, the administrative changes are as follows:
The rector is to hand over to the most senior staff, while the registrar, is to hand over to the most senior administrative staff. The deputy rector (administration) is to hand over to the second most senior academic staff, while the deputy rector (Academics), is to hand over to the third most senior academic staff.
Similarly, the bursar is to hand over to the most senior bursary staff (officer), and the librarian is to hand over to the most senior librarian.
