GOVERNOR Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has dissolved the State Executive Council, ending the tenure of all serving commissioners.
All the sacked commissioners were directed to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries without delay.
The announcement was made at the end of the 12th Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, according to the governor’s chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula, who said it was part of a restructuring exercise by the governor.
As part of the restructuring, the governor appointed Barrister Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff. Atagher, a two-term former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Benue State, also previously served as Acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank. His appointment takes immediate effect.
Governor Alia expressed appreciation to the outgoing commissioners for their service over the past two years and urged those not reappointed to remain committed to the party and its ideals.
“This decision is to give room for others to also serve. I encourage you all to stay engaged with the system and support those who may be called to take your place,” the Governor stated.
He clarified that the dissolution affects only Commissioners, with other members of the administration retaining their positions.
Speaking on behalf of the dissolved cabinet, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve. “Everywhere you are called to serve is a school. We have learnt a lot while working with you,” he said.
