GOVERNOR Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has denied speculations indicating that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or eyeing to contest for the presidency in the 2027 general election.
In a statement on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor dismissed the reports as baseless fabrications orchestrated by political adversaries seeking to create discord between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement accused “persistently discontented politicians in Abuja” of spreading misinformation to undermine Governor Alia’s leadership.
It described as misleading the claim that the governor is aligning with former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, and others for a political move to SDP.
“These actions do not only wholly miss the mark, but they also portray a significant lack of awareness regarding the substantial bond between the Governor and the President,” the statement read.
The statement further noted that Governor Alia remains the leader of the APC in Benue and has significantly revived the party in the state.
It stressed that his administration’s commitment to the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Tinubu has resulted in key appointments for Benue indigenes and developmental strides across the state.
“We wish to encourage the people of Benue that Governor Alia remains unyielding and indomitable by these unfounded falsehoods,” the statement added, urging the public to disregard unverified reports.
The statement further quoted Governor Alia as re-echoing his commitment to serving the people of Benue with transparency and dedication, assuring them that his focus remains on governance and the progress of the state.
