GOVERNOR Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has appointed renowned music artist Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, as Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach.
The announcement was made on Wednesday at the Government House in Makurdi during a courtesy visit by the music icon, who came to express solidarity with the state over recent security challenges.
Governor Alia commended 2Baba for his outstanding contributions to the music industry and his humanitarian efforts, describing him as a worthy ambassador of Benue State.
Alia expressed confidence that the artist’s wealth of experience and global influence would significantly benefit the state in his new advisory role.
The governor emphasized the need for structured engagement with displaced persons in the state, noting that proper protocols must be observed to ensure their safety and well-being.
“When individuals or groups wish to visit internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps, it is essential to coordinate such visits to avoid further traumatizing the victims. The camps are not open spaces for unrestricted access,” Governor Alia stated.
He also condemned the recent surge in violent attacks in the state, describing them as unprovoked acts aimed at destabilizing Benue.
He called on the federal government and public-spirited individuals to collaborate with the state in addressing the security crisis.
“These attacks are deliberate attempts to kill, conquer, and occupy. Farming is our livelihood, and any threat to it undermines our survival,” he added.
In his remarks, 2Baba expressed condolences to the state government over the recent killings and pledged his support in mitigating the humanitarian crisis.
He urged other well-meaning Nigerians to assist the government in restoring peace and stability.
Enoch Ocheni, Head of Communications for the 2Baba Foundation, reiterated the artist’s commitment to advocating for displaced persons through his foundation.
He highlighted ongoing initiatives, including the provision of relief materials, healthcare services, and water and sanitation support for vulnerable communities.
The appointment underscores the state government’s commitment to leveraging entertainment and strategic community engagement in fostering development and social cohesion.
