- New Varsity To Be Sited In Alia’s LGA, Vandeikya

THE GOVERNOR Hyacinth Alia-led Benue State Government has announced the establishment of the University of Agricultural Science and Technology in his local government area of origin, Vandeikya.
Governor Alia made this public on Saturday during a combined convocation ceremony of the Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi.
The actual community to host the new institution is yet to be unveiled by the governor.
Alia stated that the proposed institution aims to harness the state’s vast agricultural potential and advance technological development, thereby accelerating the state’s progress. “This university will position Benue as a leader in agricultural innovation and technological advancement,” he said.

During the ceremony, the governor urged the management of Benue State University to hold convocation ceremonies annually to provide graduates with timely opportunities for planning their future. He assured the institution of the government’s continued support in fostering innovation and skill development among the youth.
Describing BSU as a “beacon of hope and centre of excellence,” Alia acknowledged the challenges facing the university. He emphasised his administration’s commitment to addressing these issues through adequate funding and strategic initiatives.
In a bid to expand access to higher education, Governor Alia also disclosed plans to establish satellite campuses of Benue State University in the North-East and South Senatorial districts of the state.
According to him, this expansion will bring education closer to grassroots communities and meet the growing demand for higher education.
“This strategic expansion will enhance access to education and strengthen the university’s role in developing human capital across the state,” he added.
Governor Alia announced the donation of 500 computers to BSU’s Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre to improve digital infrastructure. He also declared a 100% master’s degree scholarship for all first-class graduates, encouraging them to uphold values of integrity and hard work.
“Success is not only about personal development but also about making a positive impact on society,” he told the graduands.
The governor disclosed that an executive bill has been submitted to the Benue State House of Assembly to rename the university as ‘Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu University’ in honour of its founder. He expressed optimism about the institution’s potential to achieve global recognition for excellence.
Highlighting the administration’s focus on agricultural policies, the governor encouraged graduates to embrace farming as a viable career and assured them of government support, including free funds and farm inputs, to help them establish legitimate livelihoods.
“White-collar jobs are scarce, but agriculture offers abundant opportunities for self-reliance and societal contribution,” he noted.
Governor Alia called on those pursuing further education to remain committed to their studies, urging them to use their knowledge as a tool for solving societal problems and serving as role models in their communities.
