THE RENEWAL of the concession agreement for Garki Hospital, Abuja, to Nisa Medical Group has been commended as a testament to the effectiveness of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in enhancing healthcare service delivery.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new Garki Hospital Management Board, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, Chairman of the Nisa Medical Group Board of Directors, praised the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and its Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for facilitating the renewal despite earlier challenges.

“The renewal of this concession, despite initial obstacles, is a positive development for the public,” said Usman. “I am confident that the newly inaugurated board will provide strong governance for the hospital’s future.”

He highlighted the successful completion of the second phase of the PPP between Nisa Medical Group and the FCTA, acknowledging the support of the Minister of State and the Permanent Secretary.

Usman, a former Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, expressed optimism that the new board would build on the success of the first concession, which demonstrated the benefits of PPP in improving service delivery.

He urged the board to prioritize transparency, patient safety, and excellence in clinical practice while fostering better communication among stakeholders.

The newly appointed Chairman of the Garki Hospital Board, Dr. Peter Nmadu, was described as a seasoned medical professional with extensive experience in healthcare management across public and private sectors, including a distinguished career at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Dr. Baba-Gana Adam, Permanent Secretary of the FCTA’s Health Services and Environment Secretariat, recalled the collaborative efforts of past ministers and officials in advancing PPP initiatives. He commended the FCTA leadership for expediting the concession renewal and reaffirmed his team’s commitment to efficient service delivery.

“The Nisa-FCTA partnership proves that PPP works for Nigerians,” Adam stated, adding that the FCTA remains open to similar collaborations to improve public services.

Dr. Kenneth Ityo, Medical Director of Garki Hospital, pledged to uphold the hospital’s legacy and strengthen the PPP framework during his tenure. “We aim to leave a lasting impact that will validate the success of PPP in Nigeria’s healthcare sector,” he said.

The newly inaugurated board includes representatives from the FCTA, healthcare professionals, and administrative officials, signalling a renewed commitment to the hospital’s growth and service excellence.
