GUNMEN suspected to be herdsmen on Tuesday killed two persons in separate attacks in Gwer West LGA of Benue State.
Eyewitnesses reported that one of the victims was killed in the early hours of Tuesday at Atukpu Village, located along the Naka-Aondoana-Taraku road.
The second victim was reportedly murdered later the same day on the outskirts of Naka Town, the Gwer West LGA headquarters.
The Naka-Aondoana-Taraku-Aliade road had long served as the only alternative route for residents and visitors following the takeover of the Naka-Makurdi road by armed herdsmen, robbers, and bandits over three years ago.
However, for more than a week now, suspected herders have begun targeting travellers on this alternative route as well.
The renewed wave of killings has effectively turned Naka into an isolated town under siege, with both major entry and exit routes now considered unsafe.
